play to learn Program Philosophy
The philosophy of Imaguration is to promote imagination, experimentation, social interactions, and physical activity in children furthering the development of self esteem. Imaguration’s Play to Learn Program will help prepare children to become productive members of their community and successful in their future social settings. Imaguration believes in assisting children to grow to be thoughtful, responsible adults and assisting adults to find their own imagination and creativity.
Play to Learn’s focus is on learning through the following concepts:
· physical activity
· hands on experimentation
· imaginative play
Play to Learn is an activity based program with emphasis on learning through movement, balance and coordination. Academics will be taught incorporating the three concepts into the program curriculum.
In addition to teaching math, science, social studies, basic writing, reading skills and music appreciation, Play to Learn will teach and assist children in the areas of:
· self and space awareness
· cause and effect
· responsibility for self
· consequences for actions
· trust
· social skills
· self-esteem and self-confidence
Part to whole method teaching will take precedent in the teaching strategies of the Play to Learn program. This means; a child will be taught how to write their name through a series of steps. Learning how to construct the individual letters of their name may occur through movement. For example, the letter “B” can be made into a travel course. At each point the child will do an activity such as throwing a ball through a hoop. As the child proceeds to the next part of the “B” they may travel on a scooter or walk a balance beam. The incorporation of physical activity makes learning more interesting and fun. The process incorporates learning how to move and think in one.
A fit body + a fit mind = a fit person.
